The Third Series on “WE TALK”Mini-Lectures with theme

The Third Series on “WE TALK”Mini-Lectures,sponsored by
the school League Committee,hosted by the Association of Student’s Society,was
held in the X2434 at 7 p.m,on April 13th ,2014.The mini-lecture’s
speaker was Zhao Hong,the president from our university’s the Association of
Saving the Educational Concept in Poverty-Stricken Areas,and the theme of his
speech was voluntary support education. Those who have been interested in the
theme attended the lecture.

To start with, Zhao Hong displayed some photographs took
by the students from the association who had joined the 2012-2013 “ Three Rural
Areas”Summer Program in Daofu town,Ganzi Tibet Autonomous Region ,Sichuan
Province. Those photos not only presented a faithfully educational
mal-condition in rural areas,but also revealed the misery of the children
living in remote areas. Students present were deeply moved when seeing a photo
that the children took an examination under extremely hot weather whereas they
had to carry their chairs to the playground and used them as tables because of
the limited number of desks.“ The limitation of education facilities in rural
mountainous areas and the ignorance of educational concept are two factors that
hinder the development of our nation's educational undertaking”,Zhao said,“ we
should make effort to improve the present educational condition and start with
the little things”.

After showing photos, Zhao Hong discussed a series
questions with the students present,questions including the aim of college
student to participate voluntary support education, whether college student or
children living in remote areas is the first beneficiary of voluntary support
education,the influence of voluntary support education and the public opinion
towards voluntary support education,etc..Besides, many students gave their
opinions about who is the first beneficiary of voluntary support education and
the public opinion towards voluntary support education.Opinions varied from
person to person,but all the students agreed that college students should do
voluntary support education out of their hearts and with the aim of promoting
individual strength.College students should improve the present education
condition in rural areas with their sincerity and strength but not for material
gains.

Finally, Zhao Hong shared his reflection inspired by a
traveler he had met when he finished the voluntary teaching and returned to
school.The traveler asked him:“Did you do voluntary teaching for half a year?”
“No, but almost 20 days.”Zhao replied.Then the travelers said:“Could it make
sense to do voluntary teaching?”After thinking for a little while, Zhao said:“I
don’t know whether it make sense or not,however,as long as I took the first
step,I can stick to the key point of the problem.How can we help children
living in rural areas without doing nothing but prattle about the demerits of
short-term voluntary support education?”Virtually,practice is the only
criterion for testing truth.Only by putting ideals and faith into practice can
we help to change the future of children living in rural areas.

During the mini-lecture,Zhao Hong also talked about some
demerits of short-term voluntary support education, and he gave suggestions to
how to carry out voluntary support education in“ Three Rural Areas” program
held in summer vacation.Furthermore, Zhao appealed to earnest students for
participating voluntary support education,so as to help children in remote areas.  
Next“WE TALK”Mini-Lecture will introduce
overseas summer-vacation internship program to students, we are looking forward
to those who are interested may attend the lecture.
